Spanning from the early 1990s—before the advent of social media—to 2009, the film vividly captures the tender emotions of first love and the pure, wistful gestures of a young man and woman who carry those memories as part of themselves. 5 Centimeters Per Second lyrically conveys the textures of pastoral landscapes, imprinting anew the sensibilities of a bygone era that flowed more slowly, yet more beautifully, than today.
