Four Films from the 29th Busan International Film Festival
Officially Invited to Göteborg Film Festival and Berlinale!

Four official selections from the 2024 Busan International Film Festival (BIFF)—The Land of Morning Calm, MA – Cry of Silence, Spring Night, and The Sense of Violence—are receiving recognition for their respective invites to Göteborg Film Festival and Berlin International Film Festival.

The Land of Morning Calm and MA – Cry of Silence to compete at Göteborg

|
Invited as part of the competition sections for this year’s Göteborg Film Festival, which opens on January 24th in Sweden, are two award-winners of the latest edition of the BIFF. The Land of Morning Calm, directed by Park Ri-woong, which triumphed with a triple feat, winning the New Currents Award, KB New Currents Award, and the NETPAC Award, has been invited as part of the Ingmar Bergman Competition Section. New Currents Award co-winner MA – Cry of Silence, directed by The Maw Naing, will compete in the International Competition, garnering much recognition.

Spring Night and The Sense of Violence Invited to Berlinale Forum

|
Two Korean films from the BIFF have been invited to screen as part of the Forum at the Berlin International Film Festival: Spring Night, selected for the Korean Cinema Today – Vision, directed by Kang Mija, and The Sense of Violence, selected for the Wide Angle – Documentary Showcase directed by Kim Mooyoung. Significantly, both films were produced with the support of the Asian Cinema Fund, the leading film funding program of the BIFF. Spring Night received the Post-Production Fund in 2024, and The Sense of Violence received the Asian Network of Documentary (AND) Fund in 2023.

With several films discovered and celebrated at Busan, from ACF-supported films to New Currents Award recipients, invited to film festivals at a global scale, it appears that the originality and potential of Asian cinema are being recognized and regarded internationally. The Busan International Film Festival will continue to support Asian films and filmmakers on their journey to thrive on the global stage.
