CHANEL has been a patron of the arts for more than 100 years. Extending this commitment into the next generation, this partnership with the Asian Film Academy aims to create the conditions for emerging new talent to shape the future of Asian cinema.
The CHANEL X BIFF Asian Film Academy, scheduled to take place over 20 days this September, will select 24 participants across Asia to engage in its program, which encompasses directing, cinematography, editing, sound, and other aspects of creating a short film, culminating in a screening during the 30th BIFF. In addition, the participants will have the opportunity to learn from members of faculty and mentors through workshops, mentoring sessions, and masterclass, gaining expertise and valuable insights into the industry. They will also continue to receive support afterward through a scholarship program to help enhance their practical skills in the film industry.
Meanwhile, the Academy’s new format of each directing fellow to direct their own short film, which was trialed for the first time last year, has contributed to strengthening and stabilizing the fellows’ capabilities, bearing fruit in a collection of eight unique short films. In 2025, the program plans to further systematize the team-based collaboration system to heighten efficiency in teamwork and expand networking opportunities.
