Program Note
On September 1st, 1923, a great earthquake of 7.9 hit the Kanto region in Japan and killed more than one hundred thousand civilians. A historical tragedy concealed from the world was that 6,500 ethic Koreans living in Japan were blamed and murdered by the Japanese for the earthquake. The first excavation operation to retrieve the remains of the murdered victims occurred in 1982 without much success. Choi In-Seung, a witness of the murders presents graphic testimony of the horrors commited during this tragic event.

Born in Tokyo 1955, Oh attending a North Korean high school in Japan. At age 26, he went to Imamura Shohei’s film school, now the Japan Academy of Visual Arts. His 1982 Hidden Nail marks was a sensation in Japan.
