Program Note
Based on a Japanese sci-fi novel, Nishijima Hidetoshi stars in this film by Kim Sungsu, a joint Korea-Japan production. A man is confused after seeing his wife’s corpse at home and later also receiving a phone call from her?giving him a dead wife as well as a living one. He realizes he can’t trust his memory as he struggles to find his identity. The man believes he is a normal, working class Japanese guy until his wife is murdered and his memory is tangled. As he backtracks through his life, he realizes that he is not in fact Ishigami Taketo, but a Korean man named Oh Jinwoo. Mysterious men are after him and he learns that he is involved with the development of a new drug for a pharmaceutical company. This story about a man who must become his own detective is more a mystery than an action film. Throughout the narrative, we also meet two women in love, one who loves the Korean Jinwoo, and one who loves the Japanese Ishigami. The man’s love story ends in tragedy. (NAM Dong-chul)
