Program Note
A young man begins to earn money by playing Go after giving up his dream of becoming a professional. One day, a gang leader with a great interest in the game plays with the young man. Meanwhile, the young man begins to take an interest in the gang business. The unusual mixture of Go and crime weaves an interesting story of a gang boss and a promising young Go player. Looking at the amateur player, the gang leader probably recalls his own past. After advising the young man to take a professional tryout test, the boss decides to give up his next business, an illegal wrecking crew service, which brings great resistance from a rival gang. The two men living in different worlds create a chemical action, and the gangster rules and the ethics of Go get entangled with each other to create a new beginning for both men. The relations between a professional gang leader who believes that his life is amateurish and the outstanding amateur Go player eventually converge in a father-son melodrama. (NAM Dong-chul)
