Program Note
The film begins on the streets of Teheran shot from a taxi. Then follows a series of clips from stories pivoting on various people, including a cab driver, a woman on the street, a mother, a laborer and people from a women’s shelter. The people in the film may not represent each class or group, but the difficulties they face and the stories they present display the complex variety of issues permeating and affecting modern Iran. And the people in the film deal with these issues and embrace each other’s wounds with uncompromising courage. The documentary filmmaker who appears at the beginning and end of the film roams each corner of Teheran to encounter the diverse faces of life that people have, just like this film. Iranian filmmaker Rakhshan Banietemad interweaves people’s stories to introduce the life of people who refuse to back down from pain. (KIM Byeongcheol)
