Program Note
In a remote countryside village of an uncertain time period in Japan ? though unlike Japan ? elders are gathered to oppose an airport that is to be built nearby. Ryosuke transfers to a school in the village when his father, a government official in charge of the airport building, moves there. The milk delivery boy of the town, Kohei, is not quite fond of Ryosuke who stole the hearts of the village girls but soon becomes his friend. Two boys meet a girl, Hiharu, who is waiting for a UFO, and they spend a pleasant time together. However, the adults break into a fight that turns aggressive and Hiharu gets hurt. The two boys are determined to create a miracle for her. The adult characters are somewhat weirdly unique and the incidents are far from reality, which hints at the fact that Yukisada Isao wrote and directed this fantasy that deals with the friendship and growing up of children. In this space, elements of fairytales are more important than logical rules of reality. As a result, the film unravels the attractive moments of a boy’s childhood. The performance of the main actors, Kamiki Ryunosuke and Sasano Yuma, stands out in the film. (KWON Yong-min)
