Program Note
This film by Pen-ek Ratanaruang drew the most attention this year among Thai films, and it was also a PPP project of 2006. Wit and his wife Dang return to Thailand after 7 years and check into a hotel to attend the funeral of their relative. Wit becomes close with Ploy whom he met at a hotel bar and through the love and jealousy within this relationship triangle, surfaces the true nature of affection between the married couple. Dang goes out of the hotel in distress and comes across an unexpected accident. Meanwhile, the hotel maid Tum and bartender Nut have sex in the hotel room. Director Pen-ek Ratanaruang displays prominent talent in describing the psychological changes of characters and his old time partner D.P. Chankit Chamnivikaipong also catches the reverie of its gloomy mood on film exceedingly well. (Kim Ji-suk)
