Yearning for relationship and communication is an issue characters struggle with in this film yet there isn’t a single word of dialogue being spoken. It is hard to imagine thinking so innocently that conversation would resolve their desire and change their relationship. Despite their strong desire for each other, their eyes always miss each other and the broken space separates them. The absence of language affects the viewing experience of the audience as well as the character relations because their identity and relationship becomes vague to us as we are not granted a chance to overhear their conversations. The boy and the woman are certainly mother and son but the identity of the older man who is in love with the boy remains obscure. The boy seems to have the control over his relationship with his mother, who seeks reconciliation, and with the man who wants to sustain their relationship. However, he is lost among the confusion and clash of lust created by the process of growing up. The director alludes to the reversal of the structure caused by changes in the situation but it couldn’t possibly lead us to a clean happy ending. (Mina Oak)
