Program Note
Early in the morning, a woman heads off to work at a handbag factory, while a man rests at home. The film continues to switch between the woman and the man, as it follows the woman working while the man goes grocery shopping and does the laundry. As night falls, the man goes out, while the woman gets off work. We finally realize they are a married couple when the woman finds the key the man had hidden to enter their house. Then, the woman rests at home, while the man is busily working at a print factory. Living together, yet not, only symbolically connected through daily objects, this debut film is a deep reflection of today’s society, depicting a young Indian couple living in a recession, barely making ends meet in a monotonous way of life. They have a brief moment together, which perhaps is a brief moment of happiness that keeps them going in such a, literally, silent, sacrificial way of life. (PARK Jinhee)
