Program Note
Neung is a fresh arrival at university, studying Sport Science as a major. Studying sports, which she never enjoyed, living far away from home, staying in a dormitory, and making new friends are all a challenge for her. One day, she befriends Ploy, who helps her ease into her new life. Behind Ploy’s cheery demeanor is the well-hidden trauma of her twin sister’s death. Neung’s secret love interest and department senior Ton is going through growing pains after breaking up with his girlfriend, with whom he formed a ‘campus couple.’ The film is first told from Neung’s point-of-view and is later cross cut with Ploy’s accounts, and later again Ton’s. The anxieties of life, relationships, their intersecting encounters and departures and loneliness form stories that can now be told, ones that are kept inside, that unravel and then stop. The film is a kind of autobiography of youth struggling before an uncertain future, a letter to someone and an essay all presented through montages of still photos and moving images. (HONG Soin)
