Program Note
Based on true events, Divina lives in a floating house, poor but happy with her husband and 12-yearold daughter Rowena. One day, a crocodile attacks and kills Rowena. Rowena’s father searches the wetlands to try to find her body. Devastated, Divina has difficulty dealing with her loss. She is a believer of God and has been living a good life for her whole life, yet anger and helplessness are etched clearly on her face after the tragedy. What makes her life even harder is the media that devours every aspect of her existence and turns it into a spectacle. The film puts Rowena’s parents in front of a camera and gives them a chance to speak, gives them a voice. Director Francis Pasion listens to their story and reenacts the true event with actors and finally allows Rowena’s parents a chance to act themselves,
to heal their wounded hearts. And the film has become a drama that is not unfamiliar to us Koreans in 2014. (Minah JEONG)
