A comedy involving three Brazilian actresses who decide to go to India to break into the Bollywood Film industry. Each with a look and character they can call their own, these actresses’ debut in Bollywood isn’t a piece of a cake as they thought it would be. From searching for the film executive to step onto the Bollywood film market, nothing seems to go their way. Even the dancing isn’t easy. What’s more, once the actresses are inside the heart of Indian Culture and Mythology, their dreams and wills start to change. Against their initial goal, they realize the contrasts between individual and collective yearnings. The film is a first-time collaborative work between Brazil, India and USA. Unlike other films shown at PIFF, ‘Bollywood Dream’ is a comic adventure viewers can enjoy without much mental agony. It is entertaining to follow the attractive actresses, and their unique experiences in India. As Asians ourselves, the culture and mythology of India might not be as novel, but to experience them through the eyes of Westerners is quite refreshing. Despite the Orientalism here and there, its harmonious perspective on a culture is praiseworthy. Amir Naderi, a notable Iranian film director, who is joining PIFF for ‘Cinema Talk Beyond Cinema’, also participated as an executive director. (JEON Chanil)
