Program Note
Unable to cope with the death of his wife, a man digs up her corpse and runs off with it. His father and his son run after him. It’s a road film about three generations of men. Unlike other road films where the road itself is as important as the character, this film remains thoroughly a relationship drama.
Although the film is about the three men, it revolves around the young main character. He is not happy with his father whom he does not know well, or with his grandfather who is prone to nagging. Most of the fun in the film occurs when the son’s father and the father’s son does bizarre and funny things. His extreme actions born of love towards his wife are unexpectedly touching, thanks to the realistic acting. As he bathes and makes love with a corpse, we are moved inexplicably. The naturalness of his wife’s naked body must be because of his devoted love.
Meanwhile, the grandson and the grandfather continue their bickering back and forth, but eventually come to understand each other and realize that blood is thicker than water. It’s a remarkable film about wounds and recovery. (JEON Chanil)
