Program Note
A female teacher who′s involved in a complicated relationship with her student, a girl sacrificing herself for her ill sister while waiting for God′s calling, and a photographer who lives with a man of street on the condition of silence. [Donoma] deals with the problem of communication with other people, revolving around these three people intersecting with each other. This remarkable film shows complicated human relationships unraveling in an experimental way. The characters have common problems of barriers they have to face with while entering into a relationship, despite their different situations. There are deeper elements like power, seduction, silence and sacrifice in the process of their communication. Worth noting are the filmmaker′s skills, which touch upon a quintessential part of life, mediated by young, people seemingly insufficient of life experiences. This is a striking debut feature by a young director. (RHEE Soue-won)
