Program Note
This film is a sketch of 6 high school students in Brownsville, Texas. As the Star-Spangled Banner is proudly sung every day, the students dream of prosperity and freedom. But reality does not come easy. Drugs, violence, and other problems are the norm around the school. Aimee is a drug addict from a rich family background. Manni is a member of a gang who fights for respect. Patty, a Mexican girl, is always on the look for a husband. Exceedingly patriotic member of the Reserve Officers’ Training Corps, Carlos, is trying to free Brownsville of illegal immigrants. Julia, who had been adopted, tries to fight for her house. Ricky, an outsider, is a member of a gang. Through their hard lessons learned in the ROTC and their homes, they trek on preparing for their own futures. (Jay JEON)
