Up above, next to the moon, is Dreamland, the home of Sandman. One day the evil dream Habumar steals the Sand of Dreams, which the Sandman uses to make all children fall asleep. The sleep sheep Nepomuk is sent to the real world to find a fearless captain that can help. Instead, he brings a six-year-old, Miko. Sandman immediately realizes what a good dreamer the boy is and together they defeat Habumar and his evil dream gang. [Sandman and the Lost Sand of Dreams] is a stop-motion animated feature depicting the fantastical world of dreams and imagination. Dreams refer to both a phenomenon that occurs during sleep and ‘aspiration and hope’. The film manages to successfully encompass both notions. In the Dreamland where all dreams end up, the way various dreams are described is creative and impressive, while the scene where Miko enters Dreamland for the first time shines with a beautiful mise en scene.
