Program Note
“In the midst of the battle field of Manchu war of 1636, a genius archer roamed the countryside, changing history.” Costume, make up, and dialogue reflect the massive amount of historical research that went into making this film, but War of the Arrows does not skimp on the action and amusement either. In the aspect of its production value, this film certainly fills the shoes of [The King and Clown]. The storytelling is powerful and sophisticated enough to fill two hour running time. Casting is appropriate and the performances by the stars contribute a great deal to the quality of the film. High-speed photography and CG well express the effect of arrows and realistic action scenes performed by cast members are flawless as well. The chase sequence in climax with the characters diving into the cliff is cathartic. All in all, the film deserves its place side by side with [Sunny] as this year’s most popular and entertaining movie. (JEON Chanil)
