Brother and sister Nan and Mei have grown up together on beautiful Green Island off the western coast of Taiwan, listening to their mother’s bedtime tales of magical mermaids. But after their mother and father divorce, Mei moves to Taipei with mom while Nan stays on the island with dad. Years pass and the siblings grow apart. Nan has remained on the island and become a tourist guide, and Mei is a struggling artist living in Taipei. She is in a tumultuous relationship with Hsiang, her boyfriend, but things get even worse when they find out that Hsiang, an aspiring boxer, is losing his eyesight. Will Mei, Nan, and Hsiang, with all their unhappy memories and daily struggles, ever be able to find happiness? Leading Chinese actress and director Sylvia Chang, who directed the films Tempting Heart and 20, 30, 40, helms this imaginative piece, which, set between the sea and the sky, explores the inner anxieties and innocence of youth.
