Program Note
Timid office worker Jaepil reaches a crisis point in his life when his wife demands a divorce and his boss orders him to commit an immoral act at work—and he is questioned by the police as a witness to a murder that happened in the hotel room next to his. When he gets home with a USB stick containing a file he fabricated on his boss’ order, Jaepil finds his wife covered in blood on their sitting room floor. Assuming the worst, he calls the police, who immediately suspect him of the crime. Believing he has to carry out his boss’ order, Jaepil escapes from the police station to complete his mission, sending him on the run. This black comedy follows one day in the life of a petit bourgeois man who is forced to make extreme choices at home, at work, and in society. The frustration of powerless people, who do what they are told and are treated more unfairly the more they conform, is written in the weariness of Jaepil’s aggrieved face. (NAM Dong-chul)
