Program Note
Marsinah focuses on the events following the death of a woman laborer named Marsinah. In 1993, three days after her mysterious disappearance, her tortured body is found on a farm.
She has been sadistically raped and murdered. During the process of fact-finding, the fabric laborers, the factory management, the police and the army are all implicated in the case and end up accusing each other. The case becomes increasingly complex with the involvement of the various authorities. Based on actual events in Indonesia, the film has been treated by the Indonesian Film Censor Board as a "sensitive film" even though the director focuses on the humanitarian aspects of the case.
