Program Note
Mei Bao is a 32-year old woman working in a frozen foods company. She enjoys her job and the product she makes, believing that her mother expressed her love through the many frozen dinners she prepared for her as a child and that frozen foods are perfect for the many people who are not able to eat fresh food. Pressured about marriage and her age, she decides, like she has done with the product she’s so fond of, to have her eggs frozen. Later, during a sales promotion for frozen foods, she meets a young chef, A Shi, who prefers organic meals. After a contentious start, the two fall in love. But when A Shi finds out that he is not able to father children, he breaks up with Mei Bao. After an accident in the building where Mei Bao’s frozen eggs are stored, the two meet again and realize they still love each other. The conversations between the frozen eggs and sperm are especially adorable. My Egg Boy was written and directed by the female Taiwanese director Fu Tien-Yu and stars Ariel Lin and Rhydian Vaughan.
