Program Note
An old man and Amir are struggling to restore a waterway in their village, though based on differing beliefs: religion versus science or the inevitability born by faith versus logic and progress. It is difficult to find the key to the water source, but when they have a mysterious experience with Nahid, the bride of water, Amir begins to doubt which direction he has to head for. The Dream of Water from Iran delivers a message that we should communicate with water, the origin of the life, and preserve the power of the Earth. Yet it leaves us in a somewhat awkward position with its mystery. Nahid and Amir, in the meantime, remember and believe the fairytale love story of their parents. If we consider that treating the Earth as a sacred object is to interpret the management of it and not superstition, this awkwardness might lead us to understand the positive power of faith that has been alienated from modern science.
