Tsanko, a slowcoach railwayman, discovers a pile of money on the railroad and reports it to the police. He becomes nationally famous for his actions and is suddenly praised as a hero. The Ministry of Transportation holds a congratulatory ceremony to award him a new watch. But this event becomes a disaster for Tsanko. Julia, the head of promotion at the Ministry, take’s Tsanko’s watch “Glory”, a keepsake from his father, and replaces it with the prize watch. She then loses it. Tsanko embarks on a lonely fight to reclaim it. Glory is the second feature of Kristina Grozeva and Petar Valchanov, who rose to meteoric prominence with their feature debut The Lesson (2014). Tsanko’s struggle to retrieve an old watch more valuable to him than any other prize, clearly depicts how the system can violently ruin a person’s life. Tsanko ends up a total wreck, thoroughly cut off from everything else. Julia is also a victim of the society that disregards the personality and dignity of an individual. As soon as the realization hits that all has gone wrong, the film shockingly reveals that this understanding has come far too late. (Jin PARK)
