Program Note
While on a visit to his homeland in Turin, a seaside region in southern Italy, wealthy businessman Luigi is moved by the recent tragedy of a distant relative. Teenaged Rosario′s mother has been murdered and his father is in prison. Saddened and horrified by this news, the well-meaning Luigi brings Rosario north to Turin and places him in a home for troubled teens run by a charismatic priest, Don Lorenzo. When Luigi awkwardly pushes Rosario onto his sullen teenaged son Matteo, a reluctant friendship between the boys slowly, but poignantly, takes shape. When Rosario′s strong presence begins to inspire the confused Matteo to rebel against his father′s authority, Luigi′s own deep-rooted complexes about his origins come bubbling to the surface. The fragile trust between the three of them is threatened as the emotional barriers between cultures, classes and generations become more evident.
