Singapore′s very first romantic comedy, <b>Chicken Rice War</b> is a fusion film, mixing chicken rice with Shakespeare′s <b>Romeo and Juliet</b>. Fenson and Audrey come from two chicken rice-making families who have been rivals for 20 years. While working on the play, <b>Romeo and Juliet</b> in college, the two fall in love. Of course, what follows is not a tragic tale, but a comedy praising the power of love and life. A modern version of the old story, the film relies more on Baz Luhrmann′s film <b>Romeo+Juliet</b> than from Shakespeare′s play. Using stop motion, fast dolly-in, and zooming in, the film is filled with music video-esque images, captured with a handheld camera. When scenes of interviews with the characters enter the film, <b>Chicken Rice War</b> becomes a mixture of music video, performance and semi-documentary.
