Kanu Behl′s latest feature explores sexuality in the context of India’s patriarchal society through the prism of a man’s sexual discontent. Guru, a young man who works in a call center, lives with his mother on the first floor of an old house. His father and his mistress occupy the terraced upper floor. Overcome with loneliness and a sense of despair at having achieved nothing, Guru spirals into a feverish madness of dating apps, sexual fantasies, and hysteric self-harm. By projecting on screen the chaotic life of the protagonist who is consumed by intense loneliness, misogyny, envy, and self-pity in a society that diminishes his self-worth, Kanu Behl paints the complexities of contemporary Indian masculinity that is intricately intertwined with the paradoxes of patriarchy and sexuality.
