Program Note
A romantic comedy from Indonesia, The Seventh House is the new film by director Rudi Soedjarwo, who introduced Whats with Love? at last year′s Pusan International Film Festival. The story revolves around two old-friends who own a video store together: Lin, a devout believer of horoscope since childhood, and Karkra, a man obsessed with interpreting dreams. While Lin is enthusiastic in man-hunting in fear that she may die an old maid if she does not find a Taurus(7th horoscope) man by her 24th birthday, Karkra repeatedly has a dream that he sees an unidentifiable woman at a party and believes that he is destined for her. Both of them start a new relationship. But, something goes wrong. Either too common or immature, their new lovers come up short in the romantic view of the dreamers. You can imagine what comes after. The work of Rudi Soedjarwo seems to devoutly follow the customs of the romantic comedy genre, which is quite rare in Indonesia, but his movement is quickly taking large steps in a new direction. Swing jazz flows through the digital camera that captures the impressive push and pull of the couple, making this a light and cheerful film. (Kang So-won)
