Program Note
Evident from its title, 20:30:40 talks about the love and lives of women in their 20s, 30s and 40s. The film follows one woman from each generation as she must make important decisions in her ife. We learn that the idea taught to us of there being a different set of dominant values for each of these life stages doesn′t really have meaning, In our 40s we can make fearless decisions, unlike in our 20s. Conversely, in our 20s, we are capable of striving to manage our lives like we were in our 40s. The three lives shown in the film can be understood separately or united as one. Director Sylvia Chang, who appears in the film as Lily, a woman in her 40s, superbly mixes the sketches of the three women′s daily lives in a polished style. Above all, 20:30:40 is a well told tale, with the stories, hooked together by witty links where it could have lost focus. A film that truly explores the metropolitan relationships of women.
