Program Note
For Sudhir Mishra, it seems to be possible that people living in different places can console each other. In pouring rain, Aman Kapoor, an investment consultant, stays on the quiet road with his broken down car waiting to be repaired. He starts talking with Chameli, a prostitute, and their conversation goes beyond his expectations. Chameli happens to encounter Usman, a scamp who is tormenting her, and Kapoor saves her from him. This happening gives an unexpected light to his life. Now, Kapoor is finally able to over the tragedy of losing his wife and unborn baby to a car accident where he was at fault: he is able to free himself from the past. Sudhir Mishra focuses on the process through which the two realize that they are ultimately tne same, even though they are from different worlds. Life, sometimes, leads you to meet a totally different world and casts light on hidden hope. Sudhir Mishra keeps putting weight on his theme in dialogues, but he also inserts Chameli′s song and dance. Borrowing from Bollywood tradition, he maintains the film′s color in his own style.
