Program Note
A man seeks empty houses to sleep and eat in, He waters dried up plants, cleans the house and even does the laundry to pay for his stav. One day, he finds another empty house, which in fact, is not empty at all. A woman who is habitually abused by her husband is hiding in the house. She runs away from her husband with the man, but is caught and the man is sent to prison. The man who knows how to be invisible to others returns to her. Only she can see him, and they now express their love for each other.A house must be filled. An empty house is an incomplete space waiting to be filled. In a sense, it is a loophole in the world. The man who lives in the hole does not speak so he can continue to live in the hole. Eventually he hides his whole body in the hole. In the hole, a life filled with love begins. With minimal dialogue, the film reaches a profound allegory of possession and non-possession, visible and invisible, speech and silence, and the confrontation between the spirit and materialistic worlds. 3-iron is clearly one of Kim Ki-duk′s best films.
