Program Note
A young filmmaker, Muzaffer, returns to the small Anatolian village where to grew up, resolved to capture something of its idyllic charm on film. His father, Emin, has no time for such games-he is desperately trying to save an adjoining plot of land from confiscation by authorities. Besides, there are too many real problems in the world to go around acting them out. Undaunted, Muzaffer begins recruiting family and friends to work on his film, including his young rapscallion of a nephew, Ali. If Ali can carry an egg in his pocket for 40 days without cracking it, his aunt will convince Ali′s father to purchase the watch for him. Musaffer also recruits his cousin Saffet, who has just failed his university exams. Saffet is a young town dweller whose efforts are all doomed to failure by bad luck (or is it by his own rebelliousness?). When filming finally begins, Muzaffer′s vision takes precedence over all else.
