Program Note
Ebrahim and his wife Fakhrosadat’s live a quiet, frugal life in a dilapidated house with their youngest son Reza, a war veteran who recently returned home from the hospital. One day, the gas from a leaking pipe causes the three of them to face death, however, miraculously the next morning, they wake up as if nothing happened. They even get a pleasant surprise as the rest of their children, Hossein, Abbas, and Zeinab come to visit. They all help rebuild the worn house, and give Reza the urge to live. But the more the time passes since that miraculous day the more each moment feels questionable and too good to be true. Are they really alive, or is this just a hoped for fantasy that doesn’t exist? The film ends without giving these characters a chance at happiness, leaving a sense of emptiness and the agonizing realization of the cruel realities of life. (PARK Jinhee)
