Director Rodrigues asks, "Can we survive the loss of our loved ones by nourishing on dreams?" Pedro and Rui is a young couple very much in love, and that love is eternal. Odete and Alberto head toward collapse when she wants a baby and he does not. Their fates begin to merge when Pedro dies in a car accident, and Odete becomes obsessed with getting pregnant after Alberto leaves her. Though they were only neighbors, she attends Pedro′s funeral and from there she insinuates herself into both Rui and Pedro′s mother′s lives. The world of the characters is one that teeters on the border of reality and fantasy. Odete woks in a surreal supermarket where the staff work on skates and everyone communicates from a distance. Rui′s very real grief is interrupted by Odete′s manipulations and demands, and when she begins to transform herself into the dead Pedro, the question becomes not one of simply whether or not she is crazy, but of how strong true love really is. A film about grief, loneliness, desperation and survival.
