A very rich benefactor has given the Grierson Gallery of California a gift of ＄50,000,000 with which to buy ＂Whistler‘s Mother,＂ America‘s greatest painting, held in the Musee D‘orsay in Paris. To dignify the unveiling ceremony the trustees of the gallery invite the Royal National Gallery of England to send over their greatest art scholar. This is the worst mistake ever made. The English do not send their greatest scholar; instead they send their most hated employee, in a desperate attempt to get him out of their lives.
