Program Note
Dreary lives forced upon us , miscommunication, the pain caused by silence or indifference... Disillusion embraces the screen in an artificially formal manner found in British cinema, carefully presenting the
weariness of daily life. A work-hound husband half-heartedly listens to his wife′s words as she questions the phonecalls he receives. The stalemate of their daily life, revealed in their dry conversations, create a
′silent discordant environment. Only the television fills the void left by a lack of conversation and a pervasive emptiness. The carefully divided screen challenges the viewer with the film′s burgeoning
imagination, using television as its mediation. The coiling nature of suffocation expurges illusions of the screen′s neatness. (Ha Seung-Hee)
