Set in modern Greece, two solemn children, Voula and her brother Alexandros, embark on a harrowing, lyrical odyssey in search of the absent father they erroneously believe is "away" in Germany. Destitute but latched to their dreams, they smuggle on board trains and hitchhike on vans and lorries, drifting over a landscape of noisy highways and monstrous factories. Through the children′s search for a father who does not exist, the film searches for order amidst chaos, meaning amidst uncertainty, and origins amidst illegitimacy.
