Program Note
The owner of an IT company decides to sell it. During the negotiations, the prospective buyers ask to meet the president. Little do they realize that there is no president: the owner created the man so that he wouldn`t have to deal with the fallout of unpopular decisions. He hires a failed actor with dubious ethical standards to fill in while the sale is being completed, but when the actor finds out he`s a pawn, things take unexpected turns. Lars Von Trier`s Dogme comedy is a long way from the political allegories he has concentrated on recently with the first two parts of his America Trilogy, and the director surprises by proving his adroit touch with humorous material.

Lars von TRIER
Copenhagen native Lars von Trier is perhaps known as well for his Dogme 95 manifesto as for his polemic filmmaking. A graduate of the National Film School of Denmark, he has been pushing the boundaries of cinema for over two decades. His filmography includes [Europa](1991), [Breaking the Waves](1996), [The Idiots](1998), the Palme d′Or winning [Dancer in the Dark](2000), and two parts of his intended America Trilogy, [Dogville](2003), and [Manderlay](2005).
