Program Note
An ex-mafia legend wishes to leave his organization to open a restaurant and lead an ordinary life. A woman approaches him at a cooking school in order to keep a watch on him as ordered by her client. If Won Bin and Kim Se-ron’s the [Man from Nowhere (aka. Ajeocy)] is for younger audience, [Hindsight] must be its grow-up version. The woman played by Shin Sae-kyung calls the ex-mob man ‘Ajeocy’. However it does not mean this film was directly influenced by the [Man from Nowhere]. Korean viewers’ inclination towards Drama genre might make one wonder why the director did not choose the easy way to amplify the sensation by utilizing dramatic incidents of mafia world... it would also have been an easier choice. It might have been more popular at the box office. However this film would’ve been the less sensitive drama and might have become just another mafia genre. It took another direction. The film traces the emotion between the main characters with exceptional sensibility. Ensemble casts of Song Kang-ho and Shin Sae-kyung have strong chemistry for their roles. (JEON Chanil)
