Program Note
The war between Iran and Iraq lasted nearly 10 years and invaded the daily lives of civilians. Although the boy takes the bus daily to the front of the battle scenes like most of us commute to the office daily, what is displayed isn’t the tragedy of the war but the boy’s endless chatter, which bothers the bus driver. When he reaches the battlefield, he goes to work, transporting 38 prisoners to the rear by bus. As unexpected accidents happen on the bus, the control shifts again and again and the tension builds up. The formal cause of the war between Iran and Iraq is a breach of agreement on national borders. However, their racial and cultural differences ? Arab and Persia - and the conflict of two different sects of their Islamic religion are the real reason that the war had carried on for such a long time. The two countries, both under threat of the U.S., start to show gestures of reconciliation and cooperation. The director concentrates on the fact that the war was roused by governments, not individuals, and separates prisoner characters in two groups: the majority of good people who were pushed to the battlefield and the minority of vicious soldiers. This kind of viewpoint brings the war down to a simple dispute and summarizes the history of conflict. (Mina Oak)
