Program Note
In this film, Shinji Aoyama, the director with his own authentic color, and ASANO Tadanobu, a truly prominent actor, meet again. As in Helpless and Eureka, Shinji Aoyama explores his interest in complicated human relations. Kenji takes care of an abandoned orphan Ah-Chun and Yuri, the mentally disabled sister of a friend. He meets Mamiya who runs Mamiya’s Transport Company and also takes care of those in need. He finds out that Mamiya’s wife is actually his mother who left his father. As he works for Mamiya’s company, strange tension builds up in his relationship with his mother, step-father and step-brother. Although a tragedy will happen soon, they embrace one another. Shinji Aoyama portrays the complicated relationships in detail, dedicating himself to showing the process of recovering from the pain caused by human relations.
