This experimental poetic film shows respect to Jean-Luc Godard’s Weekend. The collaboration of two directors, Joshua Tong and Tian Gao, brings about ‘confusion’ like Weekend does. Driving his only possession, a red van, Yanbing Hao waits for his wife who left him eight years ago. After anencounter with the red van, a mysterious girl Meimei finds her physical pain reduced. Her foster father and the manager of an auto repair shop, Uncle Da, actually has an affection for her inwardly. The only person who knows about this secret love is his son, lying on his sickbed since a car accident eight years ago. Meanwhile, Meimei realizes that her emotion as well as her physical pain faded away after meeting with the red van. ‘confusion’ comes from the pain. That is what makes people alive, although it also makes them miserable. ‘love’ is a kind of pain, and ‘jealousy’, too. It is natural that our lives should be ambiguous. (KIM Ji-Seok)
