Vinayak′s tenacity to acquire wealth is another name for greed. While legends and curses create a mysterious atmosphere around Tumbbad, human endeavors to conquer the mystery grow more dangerous and ruinous as history and generations go by. While Vinayak′s life in pursuit of gold coins swiftly passes, the visible lack of money and an affluent lifestyle conveys the impoverishment of the his life pursuing his goal. Can Tumbbad be safe under the control of the Indian government? Is it possible to control a treasure box that humans can open and close? The film tells us human greed is the desire to exceed control and management. Greed is the cursed child of the god of abundance. Can this portrayal of desire be read as an allegory for the imperial era from 1918 to 1947 before Indian independence? Then we can say that in this film we have seen imperialism and two world wars, an unfulfilled spirit of pursuing an ever-increasing wealth and a fable about the destructive world it has produced.
