Program Note
Daniel, a 20-year-old young man who finished his prison term, gets a job at a woodworking center in a rural village with the help of a priest, but instead of going to work at the woodworking place, he pretends to be a new priest in the village. The old priest in the town cathedral thinks Daniel in the uniform his successor and the villagers have no doubt of him. The movie becomes very interesting as a fake priest shows a more just and determined appearance than the real priest. The parents who lost their children in the past are harsh on a resident who has been cited as the perpetrator of the accident and the old priest sympathizes with it. But Daniel finds out that the truth of the accident is not that simple. In a place where the assailant and victim are clear and the victim’s hatred of the perpetrator seems justified, the fake priest Daniel tries to prove his real qualifications as a priest. Although he has never taken the formal steps to become a priest and has committed a crime, Daniel challenges what a real priest dares not to be called. Through Daniel, the film makes people realize what religion really should do. (Nam Dong-chul)
