Program Note
"The main character of this movie is Night.” - Director Albert SERRA -
Just before the French Revolution in 1774, somewhere between Potsdam and Berlin. Madame de Dumeval and the Duke of Tesis are libertines. This is why they are expelled from the Puritan court of Louis XVI. They set out on a long night trip to seek the support of the legendary Duke of De Walchen, who enjoys the pleasure of a free body and soul. Their journey to find a place for the feast of pleasure, dominated only by unfulfilled desires, is none other than a gesture of longing for freedom. It is the new film directed by Albert SERRA, who has built the most radical world of works through pure cinematic form, and won the Jury Prize in Un Certain Regard at the Cannes Film Festival.
