People look at the world from the realms of their own experience with a subjective point of view Where Have You Been? is a tale of subversion in a small but personal world. There are two men: a chef spending his daily life in a dark and damp kitchen, and the restaurant owner, the only person the chef interacts with. The dynamics of their silent power struggle is comically portrayed through the chef′s daydream sequence, featuring a mouse and the owner. Shown through the mouse′s point of view. the sequence overlaps with the chef′s own vision, cleverly jumbling dream and reality; but the chef rejects the gloomy outcome of the dream. Rescuing the mouse from the water, he starts to take control. Sitting on the hat so cherished by the owner, the chef is transformed into a lively person standing his own ground. We are left wondering where he′s been to initiate such subversion of his dark and passive world. (Ha Seung-Hee)
