The plot of Titane is surprisingly simple: A woman, who has had a titanium plate planted in her head, following a car accident when she was a child, is suddenly seized with strange desires, and thus, becomes involved in a series of unusual and alarming incidents. One day, she meets a father who is searching for the son lost ten years ago. Titane blends elements of horror, SF, thriller, romance; it is certainly an unprecedented film. More noteworthy, even than the outstanding scenario, is Julia Ducournau′s unique cinematographic style. The film might best be called an opera of steel, blood, and flame. In her now famous acceptance speech upon winning the Palme d′Or at the 2021 Cannes Film Festival, Ducournau remarked, "Monstrous nature is a weapon and a force that pushes away the wall of norms.
