A feature documentary about documentary, Cinema Verite: Defining the Moment is a major retrospective of some of the century′s finest nonfiction films and a celebration of the legacy of the cinema Verite revolution of the late 1950s and ′60s. This revolution in documentary film had many names: Free Cinema, Direct Cinema, Candid Eye, Cinema Verite. It broke out simultaneously in England, France, the U.S. and Canada. Wherever it appeared the form marked a completely new way of understanding film, the audience, and the world. Part road movie, part history, part glimpse of the future, Cinema Verite" Defining the Moment travels across North America and Europe in search of the great filmmakers who changed the way we see the world - and changed the world we see. Rich in footage from verite classics, Cinema Verite: Defining the Moment looks at some of the most exciting and influential films of the 20th century.

Peter Wintonick
For over 20 years, Peter Wintonick has worked in just about every aspect of filmmaking. He′s been a producer, director, writer and editor on feature dramas, theatrical documentaries, educational films, television programs and Internet sites. He is most noted for co-producing and co-directing Manufacturing Consent: Noam Chomsky and the Media, the most successful documentary in Canadian history. He is also passionate when it comes to writing about film and acts as an executive producer and post-production consultant on independent productions.
