Program Note
After a divorce, Lukas prepares to open a new chapter of life, finding a new job at a kindergarten. He begins a new relationship with a woman he meets at the kindergarten, and continues to build bondage with his son from the former marriage, who is living in a distant place from him. Most of all, he keeps a circle of close friends who go hunting with him in the small village he lives. However, things turn out to be ugly when Lukas becomes a suspect of a sexual crime. Even worse, the victim is the daughter of his best friend. In the chaos, everyone in the village only listens to the victim. Everything pushes him into the corner. He keeps on claiming his innocence but only sees conflict getting worse, being swirled into a fight with his friend. Through Lukas’ struggle and conflict with the village community, the movie, Hunt implies that bias could turn out to be a worse form of violence than sexual violence. Violence is not about individual matters but about innate problem that has been with the humanity for a long time. After the conflict, the movie ends with a hunting contest. The scene gives a frightening hint that violent nature of humanity is not only what the community is rooted in, but also instinct that is deep inside of each member. (LEE Sang-yong)
